NTU’s medical students are now able to sign up for a free vaccination against Covid-19, given their risk exposure to the coronavirus while on hospital or patient-care placements, according to the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine’s Student Life and Support department.

In an email sent to students on Tuesday (Jan 5), the school stated that applicants must indicate their interest to be vaccinated by 5pm, Friday (Jan 8). The date and place of the vaccinations have not been confirmed, it added.

Applicants below 21 years of age must also obtain written consent from a parent or guardian before they can receive the vaccinations, which are being arranged by the Ministry of Health’s Crisis Strategy and Operations Group.

According to an FAQ attached to the email, students may indicate their interest at a later date if they are still currently unsure, but are highly encouraged to do so during this period due to the high risk of exposure on their clinical placements.

The FAQ added that school faculty will also be vaccinated in the same time window as medical students and that to date, only the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has been approved for pandemic use by the Health Sciences Authority.

Vaccine recipients will be observed on-site for 15-30 minutes post-vaccination for severe side effects or allergies.

According to a message seen by Soapbox, students at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine were also offered the option of indicating interest in getting vaccinated.
