- NTU is moving classes online, as long as the lessons involve 50 or more people in one venue.
- It’s also restricting CCAs, sports activities, hall visits and dining-in to two people per group.
- Internships and workplace attachments are set to continue.
All NTU classes above 50 pax will be moved online until Oct 22, unless otherwise advised, announced the University on Sunday in an email to students. Sports activities and dining-in on campus will also be limited to two persons in each group, per national guidelines.
Classes with 50 or fewer people in one venue may continue with in-person lessons, wrote Deputy President and Provost Ling San and Senior Vice President for Administration Tan Aik Na.
The email stated that class discussions, as well as project and lab work, will be limited to two persons per group. Continuing Education and Training programmes — courses for university, polytechnic and ITE graduates — funded by SkillsFuture Singapore will be limited to a maximum class size of 40 persons excluding the trainer, per SkillsFuture’s guidelines.
Examinations and assessments will continue in zones of up to 50 people.
“All in-person lessons will resume from Oct 25, barring any changes in the national Covid-19 guidelines” read the email.
The following restrictions will be in place until Oct 24, according to the University:
Sports and CCA restrictions
CCAs including sports activities will be limited to two individuals, and must comply with national Covid-19 guidelines.
These activities may involve multiple groups of two, as long as participants are masked and the total number of people involved does not exceed 30 participants or the venue’s capacity limit. There should be no intermingling between groups, and all CCA-related meetings should be conducted online as far as possible, said the email.
In the meantime, indoor and outdoor sports facilities on campus will remain open from 8am to 8pm.
Dining-in restrictions
Dining-in at campus canteens remains capped at two persons per group, regardless of vaccination status. On the other hand, the following locations will require both persons to be vaccinated:
- North Spine Food Court (Canteen A)
- South Spine Food Court (Canteen B)
- Pioneer Food Court
- Nanyang Crescent Food Court
- International Food Court at Block N2.1
The University advised individuals to avoid social interactions while eating, mask up when not consuming food and beverages, and not linger in dining halls after finishing their meals. It also advised hall residents and employees to use food delivery services to avoid congestion in dining areas.
Hall visitation restrictions and other changes
Students will continue with their internships and work attachments, adhering to the prevailing safe management measures at their host organisations, said the University’s email.
Hall residents can only have up to two unique visitors in their rooms per day. Visitors must also be from the same hall precinct as the resident, and all external visitors are not allowed, added the email.
Gatherings of more than two persons in hall common areas, such as TV lounges and recreation rooms, are not permitted either.
“Individuals should continue to limit their overall number of social gatherings to not more than one per day,” wrote the NTU officials.
NTU employees may also work from home during this period, except for those who provide support student services, support for in-person classes, student counselling, IT support, lab-based support, campus housing, facilities management, or lab access for research purposes.
Last Friday (Sep 24), Singaporean authorities announced that gatherings will be restricted to two persons per group until Oct 24, to curb the rise of Covid-19 cases in the nation.
