Unknown persons posing as government agency representatives have been approaching members of NTU’s campus community, warned the President’s Office in a security advisory sent to students on Friday (Sep 4).
The relevant government agencies, such as the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Manpower, informed NTU that they had not sent anyone to interview students, wrote deputy president and provost Ling San and senior vice president (administration) Tan Aik Na.
“These persons have attempted to ‘interview’ our faculty and staff about our time table arrangements, work arrangements, and in some cases, safe management measures on campus,” stated the email advisory.
The impersonators did not provide their identities, other than introducing themselves as staff from the ministries, NTU added.
The email did not specify the intentions of the impersonators.
The university urged students to ask for proper identification when approached by such individuals, and to take down the person’s name, contact number and designation.
“Please do not provide any responses until their identity has been verified – even if the person who has approached you has an identification, you may wish to inform the person that you will only reply after you have verified their identity.”
It also told students to contact the Office of Health, Safety and Emergency (contact details below) or an appropriate university contact person so that NTU can verify the legitimacy of the person’s visit.
Lastly, it asked that students refrain from disclosing their personal information or information about other students to these individuals.
“It is important for all of us to stay vigilant, to safeguard the safety and security of our campus. Unescorted and unauthorised individuals must not be allowed to access our learning spaces, labs or offices.”
