Hall residents can now walk in for the University’s free Covid-19 swab test programme on campus without making an appointment in advance, the school announced in an email on Thursday morning (Jan 7).

This is to allow more Hall residents to benefit from the free testing and to make the programme more convenient, said deputy associate provost (residential education) Valerie Du Toit-Low and head of housing and auxiliary service Alvin Chin in the email.

Students who have already made an appointment should stick to their date and time arranged, the email added.

The tests, which kicked off on Monday (Jan 4) with a steady queue, will be conducted at Hall of Residence 2 till Jan 8 and shift to the Nanyang Auditorium from Jan 11 to Jan 15.

The school previously extended the registration window to Jan 13 to encourage more Hall residents to undergo the swab tests.

Participants told Soapbox the test took about 10 minutes, with results of the Antigen Rapid Testing announced as soon as in two hours.

If a student’s test results are positive, they will be issued with a leave of absence by the school before undergoing a second confirmatory swab if they are tested positive, the school said in a consent form for participants.
